New England Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Brady Era with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has recorded five TDs during the current campaign
The New England Patriots tied their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they defeated AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory increases the Patriots lead at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard TD to conclude the Jets' first possession
But the home team responded in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
