English midfielder Jordan Henderson reveals he has encountered "tough moments" since leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and says he might "taken different decisions".

The veteran midfielder received backlash for leaving Liverpool in 2023 to play for Al-Ettifaq in a nation where homosexuality are illegal.

Henderson had formerly been a high-profile supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and said sorry for letting down or upsetting people in the LGBTQ+ community when he departed from Saudi Arabia to move to Ajax following a six-month period.

England Career and Thoughts

Henderson was omitted from Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but has returned to the Premier League with Brentford and England's selection under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't believe it was the factor why I didn't make the Euros," Henderson remarked. "When I was in Saudi I think I was in each gathering before the Euros."

"Timing, with the situation in looking back, yes - possibly I would have made different decisions."

"But at the period that's how I believed and the decision I made was for many different reasons and I alone know those reasons."

Emotional Struggles

"To be honest, over the past few years I have had several tough moments. It was similar to a separation when I left Liverpool."

"Naturally I'm not flawless and I've made poor choices in the past. Of course I will have during my career."

"However all I've ever attempted to do is the proper thing."

International Career

Henderson has gained 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to compete against Wales and Latvia this week and feels he still has plenty to provide on the pitch.

"The crucial people are the coach, the coaching staff and the players and what they feel," said Henderson.

"Ask them what they feel, if I am a motivator when I am here. I doubt one of the finest managers in Europe would be choosing me just to do that."
